Our Grading standards.
Grade A:
A perfect product, flawless in its integrity.
Boards should be flat and straight
No twist or cupping allowed
No wane at all
4 sides clear
No knots
No face checks
No end splits
No sapwood at all, except for the occasional board with pencil sap on the extreme corners (which will be machined out)
Grade B:
Deemed an almost perfect board with minimal flaws.
Boards should be flat and straight
No twist or cupping allowed
Some short wane allowed on the ends of some boards
3 sides clear, no sapwood on the clear face or edges
Sound pin knots
No face checks, no end splits
Reverse face allowing sapwood, but not saddleback sap
Grade B- (minus):
A base product with slight variable flaws and minimal defects
Boards should be flat and straight
No twist or cupping allowed
Some short wane allowed on the ends of some boards
No sapwood on the clear face or edges
Sound pin knots and an occasional bigger sound knot allowed
No face checks, no end splits
Reverse face allowing sapwood, but not saddleback sap
Grade C:
A heavily knotted board, sponsoring many rustic features.
Boards should be flat and straight
No twist or cupping allowed
Some short wane allowed on the ends of some boards
Some sapwood permitted on 1 of 2 faces (but no saddleback sap) and color variations
No dead knots
Sound pin knots and limited larger knots allowed in both faces
Split knots permitted providing still sound
No face checks, no end splits
